Children’s Aikido

Sanshinkai Aikido Utrecht offers children’s aikido in a safe learning environment. We work in a playful way on motor development, self-confidence, social skills and defensibility. See also this episode of Het Klokhuis over aikido.

During the whole year, children can join for a trial lesson for children’s aikido. There are two age groups, both taught on Saturday mornings.

10:30 – 11:30	children from 6 until 9 years
11:30 – 12:45	children van 10 until 13 years

In the first group, movement, focus and play are the main focus. In addition, aikido techniques are playfully done. In the second group, aikido techniques are worked more seriously and there is also room for a game.

The classes will be taught by an experienced teacher: Yo-Yi, who is well-versed in training adults and children. She is a black belt, received a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) for caring for minors and has successfully completed the NOC*NSF recognized teacher education aikido. During the classes of children’s aikido, Joren (parent of one of the children and aikido practitioner) will assist. He also received a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).

If you are sixteen years old or older, you are welcome to come and train with us with the adults. When there are enough young members, we will set up a special training for this. You are welcome to take a free trial lesson with us. If you are under eighteen, you need permission from your parent(s), caretaker(s) or guardian.

During the school holidays there are no trainings. Parents will be informed about the changes in the schedule via email. All trainings can be found in our online calendar. Normally, children participate for an entire school year, but it is also possible to enroll in the meantime. We have different rates for this and we also give a discount to U-pas holders.

After following a trial lesson and a child becomes a member, an aikido suit needs to be bought. We advise from size 110 onward Ronin Club Judopak – Wit. Only for smaller sizes, we advise Ronin Aspirant Judopak – Wit. To find the correct size, a child can try on a suit from another child before of after the training.

A practical detail is that we have free parking. Ideal to do the weekly groceries while your child is doing sports. We also have free tea and coffee in case you want to relax at our location.
